Thank you so much for the many prayers and generous support you have blessed our team with already! It has been a crazy journey even so far but God has been faithful through it all so we cannot wait to see how He works on the trip.
I wanted to share the information I received from our sending agency coordinator who has been in close contact with the leaders in Athens, Greece regarding the most recent events in the city.
From Daniel, our coordinator:
"I've been following the events in Athens closely. At this point I believe the the team is safe traveling to Athens next week. I've talked with the ST team coordinator, the team leader, and another team member who all thought it was safe for a team to come.
As strange as it sounds, these protests are often events that are scheduled. The Greeks are dramatic people who express their frustrations in public demonstrations. Protests are rarely covered in world news because they aren't particularly newsworthy, but in light of the recent economic troubles, any event in Athens is front page news. Historically, strikes and protests have been common enough that the team should be prepared to miss one or two days of work out of their 2 week in Athens. On those days Stacie will have videos to watch or some other activities prepared. The short-term team will spend those days together. Protests are rarely anything more than hassles."
Please continue praying for peace for the people of Greece who are scared for what the future holds and for wisdom and grace as our team loves them!
Also keep checking our blog for updates on the team throughout our journey - May 10th-25th. We will have some internet access so we hope to update and add things regularly.
